IntervalWalk Pro ("we," "our," or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. Some of these features are still in development but this statement should be broad enough to cover how we plan to use any data collected.

- Background Location: When you start a workout, the app continues to collect location data even when the app is closed or your screen is off. This is essential for accurately tracking your walking distance, speed, and route throughout your entire workout session.
- Purpose: Location data is used solely to calculate workout metrics including distance traveled, current speed, average pace, and to provide real-time feedback during interval training.
1.2 Motion Sensor Data
- Accelerometer Data: We collect motion sensor readings from your device's accelerometer.
- Purpose: This data is used to measure speed, count steps, detect walking cadence, and improve the accuracy of workout tracking by combining GPS data with motion detection.
1.3 Workout and Fitness Data
- Workout Sessions: Date, time, duration, distance, pace, speed, cadence, and step count for each workout.
- Calibration Data: Your personal walking speeds (slow pace, fast pace) used to customize interval guidance.
- Workout History: Historical record of all completed workout sessions.
- Purpose: This data allows you to track your fitness progress over time and receive personalized interval training guidance.
1.4 Account Information
It is our intent to have users create accounts so they can manage their data in order to track their progress towards a healthier self. To that end we may collect minimal personal information.
- Username: A username you create when registering for an account.
- Password: Your account password, which is securely hashed and encrypted.
- Purpose: Account information enables you to save your workout history and access it across sessions.
1.5 App Usage Data
- Settings and Preferences: Your chosen unit preferences (metric/imperial), audio settings, and other app configuration choices.
- Permission Status: Records of which device permissions you have granted or denied.
- Purpose: To personalize your app experience and remember your preferences.
1.6 Technical Data
- Device Information: Device model and operating system version (collected automatically by the Android platform).
- Error Logs: Technical information about app crashes or errors to help us improve app stability.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
- Core Functionality: To track your workouts, calculate distance and speed, provide interval timing guidance, and display workout statistics.
- Personalization: To customize pace targets based on your calibrated speeds and remember your app preferences.
- Progress Tracking: To maintain your workout history and allow you to review past performance.

3. Data Storage and Security
3.1 Where Your Data is Stored
- Server Storage: Workout sessions, user accounts, and workout history are stored on secure cloud servers (Neon PostgreSQL database).
- Local Storage: App preferences and permission settings are stored locally on your device.
3.2 Security Measures
- Encryption in Transit: All data transmitted between your device and our servers uses HTTPS encryption.
- Encryption at Rest: Your data is encrypted when stored in our database.
- Password Security: Passwords are hashed using industry-standard cryptographic algorithms and are never stored in plain text.
- Access Controls: Strict access controls limit who can access server data.
- Regular Security Updates: We regularly update our security practices and software dependencies.
3.3 Data Retention
- Active Accounts: We retain your workout data and account information for as long as your account remains active.
- Account Deletion: When you delete your account, we permanently delete all associated workout data and personal information within 30 days.
4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
4.1 We Do NOT Share Your Data
- We do NOT sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.
- We do NOT share your location data, workout data, or any personal information with advertisers, marketers, or other third parties.
- We do NOT use your data for advertising purposes.
4.2 Service Providers
- Hosting Provider: We currently do not store any data past the workout period. When we look to store more data for longer, we will look for providers that will keep your data safe and describe it in this section.
4.3 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required by law, such as:
- To comply with a valid legal process (subpoena, court order)
- To protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public
- To investigate potential violations of our Terms of Service
5. Your Privacy Rights

You can access all your workout data and account information within the app at any time.
5.2 Deletion

- Individual Workouts: You can delete individual workout sessions from your history.

- Upon account deletion, we will permanently erase all your personal information, workout data, and account details within 30 days.
5.3 Data Portability
You may request a copy of your data in a machine-readable format (JSON) by contacting us.
5.4 Correction
If any of your personal information is inaccurate, you can update it within the app settings.
5.5 Opt-Out
You may revoke location permissions at any time through your device settings. Note that this will prevent the app from tracking workouts, as location data is essential to core functionality.
6. Children's Privacy
IntervalWalk Pro is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will promptly delete that information.
7. Permissions Explained
7.1 Location Permissions
- Why We Need It: To track your walking distance, speed, and route during workouts.
- Background Access: Required to continue tracking your workout when the screen is off or when you switch to another app, ensuring accurate workout metrics for the entire session.
- When We Access It: Only during active workout sessions that you manually start.
7.2 Motion Sensors
- Why We Need It: To count steps and detect walking cadence for improved tracking accuracy.
- When We Access It: During active workouts.
7.3 Foreground Service
- Why We Need It: To keep the workout timer and tracking active while your screen is off, ensuring uninterrupted workout monitoring.
7.4 Wake Lock
- Why We Need It: To prevent your device from going into deep sleep during a workout, which would interrupt tracking.
7.5 Battery Optimization Exemption
- Why We Request It: To ensure reliable workout tracking without being stopped by aggressive battery optimization.
- Your Choice: This permission is optional, but without it, some devices may stop workout tracking to save battery.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. When we make changes:
- We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
- For material changes, we will notify you through the app or via email
- Your continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
9. International Data Transfers
Your data may be stored and processed in servers located in different countries. By using IntervalWalk Pro, you consent to the transfer of your information to countries outside your country of residence, which may have different data protection laws.
